Trans4mMED - Transformative Patient Centred Personalised Medicine Initiative will drive a paradigm change to enable the integration and convergence of many relevant scientific fields and technologies, which will lead to a new era in healthcare based on preventive, regenerative, precision and personalised medicine therapies centred on the patient and to new avenues for predicting and preventing disease. This approach will involve efforts from these fields and the involvement of stakeholders from academia, industry, regulatory and political entities, as well as society.
Based on this radical change, the main objectives of the initiative consist in the development of patient-matched therapies for treating diseases that have a great impact on society (e.g. those associated to ageing and chronic diseases) or the patient (e.g. rare diseases). Other objectives include the development of early and accurate diagnostic technologies as well as predictive and preventive tools that will enable a paradigm change in Healthcare.
To achieve these objectives, the initiative will define during the Preparatory Action a Scientific and Technological (S&T) Roadmap built on three stages that include the shifting, converging and integrating of various scientific fields and technologies that currently work isolated or at a distance.
The Roadmap will involve the concerted effort of leaders of different research fields going from basic to applied research on Tissue Engineering, biomaterials, biofabrication, biosensors, Stem cells, nanotechnology, multi-omics, big data, imaging, etc. The initiative will also include the efforts and contributions of social sciences and economy experts to generate awareness and acceptance of the new technologies by the population and experts, supporting questions related to the regulatory framework, marketing and costs of the new advanced therapies that will be developed.
The initiative will pave the way for a new landscape for personalised and patient centred healthcare in the future.
